Official Apple iPad case review
Posted by Marcus in iPad accessories

Welcome from my car in a very wet location somewhere on the south UK coastline! For my latest review I’ve left my comfy office behind and decided to complete my review armed only with my iPad and iPhone, a chance to see how portable computing fares with an iPad and get thoughts on the Apple iPad case to you all. (Look out for a write up soon on using the iPad on the road.)
It’s time to take a look at the official Apple iPad case, it comes nicely package as all Apple products do in the now standard white box. Inside the case itself is safely wrapped in the cellophane, there are some simple instructions on the cellophane referencing how to insert and ‘lock in’ your iPad.

The material is something I’ve not seen before, its almost like a wetsuit material, that gives the impression that it will wipe clean easily if you ever put it on messy surface. The edges where the material is bonded does seem a little sharp due to how thin the material is, it’s not terrible and does offer some extra side impact protection for your iPad. Some people will not like this edging, however it’s fine for me.
Installing the iPad into the case is a tight fit, the material does have some elastic properties which allows a very snug fit, the entrance where you slide your iPad in has a generous flap which you fold over and under the iPads edge to effectively lock it in place. This is a great idea that vie not seen on any other cases, and having had one iPad slip out of a case I’m very please to see this feature.
Once installed the cover closes nicely, you do however need to ensure the flap is well tucked in or your cover will not close correctly. The case cover seems a little lightweight but should offer ample protection when closed in your bag. The Apple symbol is a nice touch if your an Apple fan like me, or it’s a horrible addition if you prefer to say ‘i’m a PC’ which makes me wonder why you’d buy an iPad in the first place!
On the rear of the case there is a moulding to allow you tuck the stand cover in to create a stand, either at a 90 degree angle for viewing video or a 30 degree angle for typing. The 90 degree angle is not the most stable position but it does work. The 30 degree typing angle is excellent, the angle is just right for any considerable typing, like this review!

As you’d expect from an Apple product the build quality is excellent, and all switches and buttons line up very well, none are out of line and hampered in their operation.
Conclusion
I like the case a great deal, it does not offer any extra pockets or gimmicks but it does protect your iPad well. The price is a little expensive at £30, but it is of good quality. This will be the case I keep on my iPad for the foreseeable future, until I get to try out Happy Owls Clutch if it ever gets released.

Great price on this case currently at Amazon!

Wow you reviewed the sleeve in the car! Cool! My hats off to you
Good post!
I’m just trawling through iPad case reviews now as i’m expecting my iPad on Friday (fingers crossed). That plastic cover on the front that protects the screen, is it nice and taut?
Thanks for the review. By the way is that car a Mazda?
The plastic cover is a Belkin one, I reviewed it on this site also. It fits nice and all the air bubbles were easy to push out. It’s an extra bit of protection that Im not sure is needed, but gives me a little bit more peace of mind.
The car is in fact a Seat Leon Cupra R
Hope your iPad turns up when expected! It’s a great little device, my netbook has been gathering dust since I got my iPad!

Apple iPad news and Reviews…
When I bought my iPad a few months ago I was very tempted to get an Apple skin for it until I decided I wanted something a bit more interesting than just plain black. However, when trying to find what I wanted I realised it was not going to be as easy as I hoped, as everything was a lot more expensive than I was prepared to pay. After weeks of hunting around I finally came across http://www.oliepops.com which were amazing. I got a gorgeous floral embroidered one for just £30.99. The do fun coloured ones too if you aren’t a flower person and offer free delivery to anywhere in the world. The website was really easy to use as well because I could pay by Paypal and I received it the next day. They are offering a 15% discount off everything if you use the promotional code “Issy”. Since finding this out I have been on another shopping spree with them and bought myself a handbag organiser and camera case!
Good review mate , can you take off the stand at the back of the case or is it there all the time , thanks in advance
The stand slot is built in, it works a little like a cereal box flap.. !
