Seskimo StickUp iPad travel stand

Do you need a travel stand solution?

If you have purchased Apples official iPad case your able to turn the case into a makeshift stand when your travelling, a simple solution as long as you don’t mind hiding your iPad in a rather dull case.

But what you keep your iPad in a nice sleeve and travel with it? It’s not really practical to pack an iPad stand like the ‘Joule’ in your bag, you could try propping it up using anything you have around and hope your iPad doesn’t slip off…. or you can get a dedicated travel stand like the StickUp from Seskimo, it’s light, sturdy and packs down nice and small when it’s not being used.

The StickUp in it’s stowed form is very small, it measures 120mm x 90mm x 10mm, it can happily slip into a pocket of your bag or trousers and weighs less than 50g or 2oz. It’s made from polypropylene, the material that most things with ‘living hinges’ are made from. This means it’s flexible and strong.

Setting up the stand for the first time is a little tricky, but you are supplied with some detailed paper instructions (PDF Version) that guide you from the flat packed state to the constructed stand, but once you’ve completed it once subsequent builds are very quick. It looks involved at first, but it’s very easy to master, the material is nicely manufactured with deep scores to allow easy folding at the places it’s needed.

There’s a handy little video on the Sekimo website that shows you how to assemble and pack it down again which can be used as reference the first time you build!

It supports your iPad at angles ranging between 30° and 80°, changing angles is a simple adjustment of the ribbon length on one of the buckles. The buckles act as stops on your iPad case to stop your iPad sliding down, this is what gives the StickUp its versatility as whatever angle you prop your iPad up at it always feels very secure.

Viewed from the back you can see the iPad rounded contours firmly supported by the flexible material, and lying nice a flat on the desk surface.

The stand handles your iPad in Portrait and Landscape mode with ease, it’s possible to charge your iPad in both orientations if you position the USB at the top in Portrait mode.

Conclusion.

I really like the StickUp and I know it will be travelling with me on my next business trip, both for entertainment in my hotel (Watching a Movie) and for some small presentations I have stored on my iPad. You appreciate it’s clever design the more you get used to putting it up and down. If your looking for a light iPad travel stand I can heartily recomend the StickUp.
